jazzmen Stuttgart

Be Jazz, be open! Every year in July, the jazzopen Stuttgart boast a wide range of  stars, insider-tips and newcomers under one, distinct motto. Welcoming over 50,000 visitors annually, the festival offers an attractive genre mix of jazz, rock, R&B, fusion and even a hint of classical music. Four festival stages establish an urban soundscape, enriching the inner city with a ten day, ongoing schedule.

The main stage, located in the historic courtyard of the New Palace - right in the heart of the city - offers musical highlights to about 7000 avid listeners. An impressive stage, standing room area, opulent grandstand, private boxes and beverage and souvenir stands produce a most complete festival atmosphere.

Historical significance is especially obvious within the beautiful, arcade courtyard of the Old Palace, where 1500 music lovers (seated or standing, also catering possible) can be accommodated. Attendees can also enjoy world-class jazz acts in the SpardaWelt Event Center and in the BIX Jazzclub, which - due to its unique club setting – is known far beyond Stuttgart's boarders. Traditionally, the BIX is the meeting place for late night roamers, offering the final notes to each busy and exhilarating festival day.

A vital part of the festival tradition is the presentation of the German Jazz Trophy, Children's Jazz, the Open-Stages concerts with free admission and the young talent competition playground bw. Within the contest, young bands from the state of Baden-Württemberg are offered a chance to present themselves to a large audience by means of warm-up slots prior to the main, festival headliners.

Since the premiere in 1994, the jazzopen Stuttgart have grown steadily, now being one of the most important festivals of its kind in Europe. So far, superstars like Christina Aguilera, Norah Jones, Quincy Jones, David Gilmour, Katie Melua, Carlos Santana, Lenny Kravitz, Paul Simon, Lang Lang, Jamie Cullum, Wynton Marsalis, Diana Krall, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Dave Grusin, Jean-Luc Ponty, Lee Ritenour, Marcus Miller, Kamasi Washington, Paolo Conte, Stanley Clarke or Herbie Hancock have performed. In 2017, the jazzopen were awarded the Live Entertainment Award (LEA) as "Festival of the Year" in the German-speaking area. Kraftwerk's concert with a direct connection into space to the ISS space station received the LEA Award for the "Concert of the Year" in 2018.

The jazzopen offer single tickets and festival passes within three categories. The Ehrenhof module applies to all concerts in the Ehrenhof, including seating and catering. The module Altes Schloss (Old Castle) entitles the visitor to attend all concerts in the Old Castle, including seating and catering. The Standing Combo Pass is valid for all concerts on all festival days on the four main stages, including  standing room areas.
